Problem with password expiration in ssh

 I have ssh 2.4.0 compiled in a Sun Ultra1 with Solaris 2.6 and password
aging turned on. The only allowed Authentication is the shadow password.
It is working fine except that once the password has expired, the user
cannot connect any more. The message I get is:

Disconnected; protocol error (Unexpected response packet)

Is this normal ? Does it happen the same with openssh ?
